Alpha 0.0.95 and the release strategy


In this release - Alpha 0.0.95 - the following changes were made:

  • added block name displaying on hover
  • added the main menu
  • when starting the game you get to the main menu instead of directly into the level
  • middle-clicking a block in the creative inventory gives a stack of these items (like shift-clicking)
  • addded a pause menu, available by pressing ESC.

Additionally, I would like to draw here my release strategy.

So, there will be several stages:

Alpha - making a good creative experience, implementing the UI

Beta - survival, monsters etc

Release - code polishing, large feature updates


In Alpha the version numbering scheme is 0.0.x where 'x' is the commit number. Yes, Alpha releases are just snapshots of more significant commits.

In Beta the version numbering scheme will be 0.x where 'x' will be a number increasing by one each release.

In Release the version numbering scheme will be x.y where 'x' will be the major update version, and 'y' will be the smaller, bugfix version.
